MSC is a family company led by strong values and by its own philosophy, built up from over four decades of our owner and founder’s expertise in the shipping sector, as well as his care for people and the environment.
Our long-term vision is to foster economic and social development by connecting populations and countries as the Masters of the Seas. To do so, the promotion of sustainable policies and practices, within our sphere of influence and throughout our supply chain, is an integral part of our strategic planning and day-to-day operations.
MSC is strongly committed to contribute to realization of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and is an active member of the United Nations Global Compact, a public-private initiative to align business strategies and operations with universal values and principles in the area of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
Our strategy is based on four main pillars:
Social Inclusive Approach
MSC seeks to alleviate poverty and ensuring a positive impact on local communities where we operate. We promote a wealth of career opportunities, whether through vocational training at sea or professional training in the office. We actively contribute to emergency and disaster relief initiatives.
Environment
We are committed to promote a sustainable use of the sea and marine resources, while extensively investing in the latest generation green technologies, to minimize the environmental impact of our business activities on lands, oceans and populations. MSC focuses on the continuous improvement of its standards and core requirements, including through the achievement of ISO certifications. MSC was awarded the Greenest Ship of the Year award at the 2016 Green Shipping Awards.
Health and Safety
We seek to provide employees with a safe and healthy environment both at ashore and at sea onboard our vessels. To ensure the safe transit of vessels, cargo and crew, we have our own Dangerous & Sensitive Cargo Management System, in line with the international HSSE standards and applicable health and safety laws.
Business Ethics and Protection of Human Rights
MSC is proud to facilitate and support global trade with integrity. We conduct our business in a fair, ethical and responsible manner. We also promote non-discrimination, equal opportunities for all and condemn child labour along with any other type of harassment. The MSC Code of Business Conduct, reflects these commitments and sets forth the common standards for MSC and its employees in all business dealings.
