MSC keep cherries cool and on the move around the world.

Count on us for your Cherry Exports

Cherries are one of the world’s most popular fruits, a sweet ingredient of jams, cakes and confectionery, as well as being tasty treats themselves. Türkiye and the US are two of the biggest cherry producing nations.

Cherries are often consumed in their country of origin because of their short storage life and sensitive texture. Transporting cherries overseas requires specialist equipment to keep the produce feeling fresh, tasting sweet and looking good.

MSC has a wealth of experience in shipping cherries, from local experts in the supply chain to our reefer specialists, ensuring that this sweet cargo reaches its final destination in perfect condition.

  • Fast and reliable transit times

  • Flexible availability of reefer equipment

  • Tailor-made services in container depots

  • Great coverage of all strategic loading ports

Cutting-edge Reefer Technology

Consumers today expect a constant supply of fresh, tasty and visually appealing fruit. Our world-class reefer fleet is equipped with the temperature control & dehumidification technology you need to preserve the taste, freshness, texture and aroma of cherries.

Additionally, we use Cold Treatment as a chemical-free way to eliminate fruit flies and other insects that might damage the biodiversity and agricultural industries of importing countries.
Also integrated within our containers are Controlled Atmosphere (CA) technologies, as well as other atmosphere control technologies such as

  • StarCool® CA
  • XtendFRESH®
  • Liventus®
  • Maxtend®
  • Purfresh®

Cooling and Storage

Cherries are stone fruits, so are very sensitive to despoiling after being harvested. The way they are handled and stored during the shipping process is critical. Sweet cherries should be cooled to temperatures below 5°C no more than four hours after harvest.

During transportation this chilling process must be continued. The temperature of containers that contain cherries should be kept at between 1.1 – 2.2°C, with a relative humidity of 90-95%. Cherries also require specific ventilation conditions. Containers should have an airflow of 60-80 circulations per hour with a continuous supply of fresh air.
