Captain Gianluigi Aponte is the Founder and Group Executive Chairman of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A.

Born in Sorrento, Italy, Mr Aponte started his career as a captain operating passenger ferries in the Mediterranean for his family’s business after graduating from the Italian Maritime Academy.

In 1970, following a break from the world of maritime transport to work as a banker for a number of years, Mr Aponte returned to the industry to start his own business, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company.  Starting out with a single general cargo vessel, the MSC Patricia, Mr Aponte has developed and led the company with true entrepreneurial spirit for over four decades.  In the early days of MSC, Mr Aponte used the expression ‘where the customer goes, MSC goes’. This vision brought exponential growth in terms of both volume and fleet capacity which now serve customers all over the world. Over the past 45 years, Mr Aponte has led MSC from a one vessel operation to become the second-largest container shipping line in the world.

MSC has been built around its core family values of caring for people.  Although the company has grown rapidly over the past forty years, Mr Aponte still remains focussed on cultivating our own special ingredient which is MSC’s family spirit.

As winner of many industry awards for his contribution to the maritime industry, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the UK trade publication Containerisation International, Captain Aponte is an esteemed industry leader known for his dynamic approach and wealth of knowledge and experience in container shipping.  It is not just the maritime industry that acknowledges Mr Aponte’s achievements. In 2009, at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, he was one of the top leading Neapolitan businessmen to receive the "Neapolitan Excellence in the World" award from Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.  In 2013, Mr Aponte was awarded the “Ordine Al Merito del Lavoro” (Order of Merit for Labour) by Italian President Giorgio Napolitano.  Mr Aponte’s reputation as a successful businessman and industry contributor also earned him the prestigious “Legion d’Honneur” (Legion of Honour) accolade in March 2010 and a significant vote of confidence from French President Nicolas Sarkozy for the part he played in creating 6,000 jobs at the STX France shipyard at St Nazaire, France by placing a new vessel order.

Diego Aponte is President and CEO of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A.

Son to Gianluigi Aponte and his wife Rafaela, Diego was raised sharing his family’s passion for the sea. After school Diego took his first steps towards his ultimate career by furthering his education in London, becoming a post graduate of Maritime Studies with a particular focus on shipping.

In 1997 Diego joined MSC, training on-board vessels as a junior engineer to gain first-hand technical experience. To increase his breadth of maritime knowledge Diego also worked in MSC Ship Management in Sorrento, gaining valuable experience of MSC’s operations.

Upon joining MSC Headquarters in Geneva, Diego worked in all departments including Latin American and USA trades, immersing himself in the day-to-day challenges and successes of the business.

In the late nineties, Diego identified an opportunity for MSC to invest in a terminal infrastructure which he believed would help to facilitate the long-term growth of the container industry.  In 2000, Diego created Terminal Investment Limited S.A. (TIL), which, under his careful management and direction has become one of the largest terminal operators in the world.  Today, Diego is the Chairman of TIL.

From 2006 Diego worked closely with his father as Vice President of the business, before being announced in 2014 as President and CEO of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A.

Born in New York City and having graduated from the University at Buffalo in the 1970’s, Allen began his maritime career in freight forwarding with the German organization, Deugro GmbH, followed by Freight Base, an Nvocc which was still in its infancy in the industry.

Joining Containership Agency in 1981, selling for Italian Lines, Neptune Orient Lines and Bottachi Lines, Allen quickly rose through the ranks and began an association that led him to MSC, which Containership Agency represented at the time.  Booking cargoes on other carriers to and from the United States, Allen grew the company as its first employee of MSC in the United States under the President at the time, Capt Nicola Arena, who started MSC in the United States.

Allen’s specialty, although having worked in many departments, is particular to sales in which he was Assistant Vice President, Senior Vice President and today, Executive Vice President.

He is also Co-Chairman of Containerization and Intermodal Institute, the oldest container based organization in the United States dating back to 1957, providing scholarships to deserving industry minded young people and awarding the annual “Connie Award” to deserving industry leaders who make a difference.  Prior to being named Co-Chairman, Allen was President of this organization.

Allen’s hobbies include history, art and public speaking.

He is married to Donna, and has three children – Lauren, Justin and Daniel all residing in New Jersey and New York City

Christopher Parvin was born in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, England. Growing up as a farmer’s son, he learned from an early age to get up every morning and go to work. As all farmer’s children do, he learned to drive a tractor as soon as his feet could reach the pedals and was stacking bales of hay at 10 years old. Christopher learned and truly believes that the only way to success is education, hard work, and common sense.

In 1975, he joined Cunard Shipping Services as a Deck Cadet where he served a four-year apprenticeship on board bulk carriers, tankers, general cargo vessels and containerships.

Christopher graduated in 1979 from Liverpool Nautical College with his HND in Nautical Science and his Second Mates Certificate of Competency. In 1981, he graduated from the Hull Nautical College with his First Mates Certificate of Competency.

From 1979 to 1983, Christopher had the experience to sail as Third Officer on board various Vessels Tanker, Container, and for 2 years, on board Reefer Vessels.

It was in 1983 that Christopher’s career in Logistics and Operation began when he joined Cunard Arabian Middle East Line (CAMEL) in their Logistics and Operations Department of their London Office.

In 1984 he joined Seerscombe Services in Felixstowe as a Planner and Stevedore by providing Terminal Planning and Stevedoring Services to Shipping Companies, including MSC!

After 2 years, Christopher joined the Port of Felixstowe where he worked in their Planning Department at the Trinity Container Terminal. He was promoted to Operations Manager of the Rail Division and responsible for two Rail Ramps at the Port moving 300,000 rail containers annually.

1988 was the year that Christopher became part of our family by joining MSC in Felixstowe working for the UK agent Medite, later renamed MSC UK, as the Operations Manager responsible for setting up the ‘new’ Transshipment Operation, planning, and stevedoring operations.

In 1995 Christopher was transferred to MSC USA as the Marine Operations Manager, working out of the NYC office where he organized the USA Marine Operations Department and USA operations including the vessel planning and port operations. In the same year, we achieved 3 weekly services to 6 USA Ports. He went on to be involved with the planning and the transshipment operations at the Port of Freeport from its inception in 1997.

In 1998 Christopher moved to our MSC Charleston office and relocated the Operations Department to South Carolina. From there he assisted with setting up and organizing the MSC Marine Operations in the Caribbean, Venezuela, and Mexico. He also organized the startup of MSC Marine Operations on the West Coast and our Transpacific services.

Christopher was promoted to VP of Marine Operations in 2003. In 2007, he got involved with startup operations of JV stevedore and terminal companies and by 2010, joined the Board of USMX and PMA.

In 2015 Christopher was promoted to Executive VP of Marine Operations, responsible for Marine Operations of 19 Ports, 24 Terminals, last year 4,877 port calls and moved 3.48m containers on/off our vessels.

Christopher currently serves as the MSC Board Member of USMX and PMA, and 3 other Boards for our Joint Venture Terminal/Stevedore companies.

Fabio was born near Rome in Italy and comes to us with a wealth of international maritime experience.  On January 1st, 2015 he became President of MSC (USA) after one year as Vice President at MSC Headquarters in New York City.  Prior to this he joined MSC (USA)’s Houston Office where he held several positions. He was quickly promoted and moved to MSC’s New Orleans office in the position of Office Manager.  In 2010 he transferred to Charleston, South Carolina, the largest MSC facility in the U.S.A. where as Office Manager he drove MSC’s business as for almost three years.  He has a Master’s Degree in Maritime Studies from Pisa University in Italy and became a Ship’s Captain in 2007.  One year later Fabio commanded the MHC Viareggio, a military vessel based in La Spezia, Italy which was one of the most rewarding assignments of his military career.

After spending time at the Aeronautical Technical Institute in Rome he joined the Italian Naval Academy in Livorno, Italy in 1995.  During the early part of his career he was a foreign student pilot in the U.S. Navy Flight Training Program after obtaining an Electronic Engineering degree in 1999. During that time, he was stationed at US aviation military bases N.A.S. Whiting Field in Florida and N.A.S Corpus Christi in Texas, where he was awarded his “Naval Aviator” certificate.  He then returned to Italy for six years where he served as a navy pilot on assignments for both the Italian Navy and the Allied forces.

He currently resides in New Jersey with his wife Leah, and their three children Isabella, Francesca and Evan.

Born in Genoa, GianCarlo followed in the footsteps of his father and graduated from the Merchant Marine School and immediately enrolled in his first shipping line.  His passion for the sea allowed him to grow when opportunities presented themselves in the industry.

MSC was the turning point in his career, as he fit well into the aggressive growth strategies of the young company.  His self-discipline guided him along the way to one of the top positions in the company.

Working as a Deck Officer from 1981 to 1986 with D’Amico Societa’ di Navigazione in Rome, GianCarlo continued his maritime experience and studies joining MSC in 1986 in the same capacity, during which he received his Captain’s license while he traveled on board MSC to Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands. 

GianCarlo joined MSC in the USA as a Port Captain in 1989 working vessels for MSC as well as the Chilean flag operator, Empremar to Latin America.  In 1992, GianCarlo continued his upward trajectory working as Trade Manager for relay services, South Africa and Australia at which time, he was promoted to Vice President.  In 2004, GianCarlo was promoted to Senior Vice President for Trades followed by his present position as Executive Vice President for all Liner aspects.  GianCarlo’s passion remains as strong as ever, ensuring that MSC USA’s excellence will continue to succeed.

Born in Cosenza, Italy, Gianpiero holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Pavia.
From a young age, Gianpiero was actively involved with several Non-Profit Youth Organizations; in 2004 he was elected national President of AIESEC in Italy; in 2012 he was named President of the (YEX) Young Executives Committee of the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce of New York.
With the intent to further enhance the relationship between Italy and the USA, he joined in 2014 the Board of Directors of the Foundation I.L.I.C.A. (Italian Language Inter-Cultural Alliance). 

Gianpiero started his career with MSC USA in 2006, initially in the import customer service department then furthering his experience by being placed in 6 other divisions. In 2009 he started his career in management as Deputy Office Manager in MSC Charleston, followed by his promotion in 2013 as MSC USA Corporate Office Manager.
Gianpiero was named Vice President Branch Offices in December 2014 and he currently oversees all aspects of the departments’ productivity and talent development.

Passionate about life coaching, Gianpiero graduated in 2014 from Robbins Research International Mastery University.
He was the recipient of several awards such as AIESEC Leadership Award, TARGET USA All Star Award, MSC Excellence Award and the Gold Medal “Calabrians in the world”.

Gianpiero is married to Nadine and they presently reside in New York City.

Having studied at the Universita’ di Genova and receiving a Master’s degree of Dottore Magistrale in Economia e Commercio in 2006, Luca served as Controller at CITIS, which is the Consorzio Italiano Imprese di Servizi in 1992.

Joining MSC in the United States in 1998, Luca honed his experience and financial expertise, while guiding the USA organization from the bottom, up by joining the freight cashier division, and other financial groups in the company before rising to Controller in 2007.  In 2008, Luca was named CFO of MSC USA, and has lent his expertise to ensure the financial upward trajectory of the USA, organization.

Luca is married to Amiramis and has a son, Benjamin. Luca and his family reside in New Jersey.

Born in Italy and having graduated with a degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Genoa in 1995, Paolo followed this with a Master degree in Macroeconomics and Finance from Oxford Brooks University in the UK.

His working experience included trading currencies in UK when he decided that he wanted to seek his fortunes in the United States.  Finding his way to MSC USA, Paolo began like other senior managers, in the Export Documentation group before solidifying his hold on customer service and establishing the VIP program for MSC in the USA, a hallmark of our company for personalized customer service.

Paolo was named Assistant Vice President for Customer Relations in 2003  and was followed in 2006 as Vice President of Branch Offices and Quality Control.  Paolo was named Senior Vice President of Quality Control in 2013 and now he is since September 2014 Executive Vice President in charge of Marketing and Quality Control.

Residing in New Jersey today with his wife, Marta and daughters Emma and Aurora, Paolo enjoys and specializes in photography.

After attending from Glassboro State College, Bob began his career at Containership Agency, the general agent for MSC in the early 1980’s and joined MSC in 1982, when it was established as one of its very first, employees.

Today, Bob serves the company as Executive Vice President in charge of Intermodal Operations and Equipment Control, a position that he has held since 2005. Prior to that, Bob served in various capacities such as Senior and Assistant Vice President, always on the intermodal and equipment side of the business.

Bob is active with several organizations supporting autism awareness and research such as the Greenwich Autism Alliance Foundation, Autism New Jersey and
the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. In 2014, Bob received an award from the National organization, Autism Speaks, for his devotion to improving the lives of children with Autism.

Bob is a board member of the OCEMA, NYSA and has served on the board of several chassis pools.

His hobbies include biking, surfing, paddle boarding and hockey.   Bob is married to Kelly and has three children;  Anastasia , Christina and William.  The family resides in New Jersey.

Jessica was born and raised in Hollywood, a town about 30 miles outside of Charleston, SC. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from College of Charleston in 2006. In January 2007 Jessica began her career at MSC as an Import Customer Service Representative.

While working full time at MSC Jessica decided to further her education at Webster University, where she obtained her Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management in 2010. While neither of her degrees are maritime industry driven, Jessica believes that both have helped to shape her career.

Also in 2010, Jessica moved to the Export Traffic Team, handling cargo on the Far East, WMED, Oceania, NWC services. This team is where Jessica was first introduced to the out of gauge “world”. Always the type to try something new and expand her knowledge, she embraced the opportunity to learn as much as possible about this unique market.

In 2011, Jessica and two other women were chosen to form the Out of Gauge group. In March 2012, she was promoted to Assistant Manager and in 2014 Manager. Since then, the OOG Team has grown from 3 to 5 members and not only handles Export cargo out of the US, but now Import cargo as well.

When she is not conquering the oversized cargo, Jessica loves spending time with her family and friends in pure southern fashion: outside (preferably on a porch), catching some breeze, and listening to her favorite tunes.

Pietro Pinto was born and raised in Biel-Bienne, Switzerland. After the completion of his studies at boarding school in Switzerland, he moved to New York City where he went on to graduate from Manhattanville College with a Bachelor’s degree in International Management.

Pietro began his successful career with MSC in 2003 in the Export Documentation Department in the New York office. He grew to become the Documentation Manager, and later, expanded his commercial experience as the Line Manager first for the Reefer Department and then the Relay Department.

In 2011, he moved to the New Orleans office where he held the position of Deputy Office Manager. Thereafter he moved to the Chicago office, where he was their Deputy Office Manager for four years.

Following his tenure as Deputy Office Manager Pietro joined the Sales force in 2015 as the Director of Global Accounts and went on to become the Nationwide Reefer Sales Director.

Pietro is married to Monika and they currently reside in Chicago.

Born in Genoa, Roberto studied at the University of Economics of Genoa where he graduated with a Master Degree in Business Management.

After having built up a strong Sales & Marketing experience working for several companies in Italy, he moved to the US and joined MSC in 2006.

He was first employed in the Documentation Department and was then moved to more commercial role in the VIP Export CS and Trade Management of Export Services to Central America, to then pursue his carreer in the Export Reefer Department.

Roberto has been able to achieve a well-rounded experience in the containership market which has given him the opportunity to improve his commercial skills and play the role of USA Reefer Team Coordinator today.
