MSC Launches its New Kamchatka Service

01/19/2022

MSC’s latest service, Kamchatcha, officially started last week with the sailing of MSC NORA from Qingdao, China on 10 January.

The service directly connects Northern China ports of Qingdao, Dalian and Xingang, as well as Incheon and Busan in South Korea, with the Russian ports of Vladivostok and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.

MSC is the only global carrier to offer a direct service between China and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, the largest reefer port in the Kamchatka area. MSC’s direct service offers a faster transit time compared to using feeder services.  For example the direct service offers a speedy transit of eight days between Dalian and Vladivostok.

Alongside the launch of this service, the rotation of the Golden Horn service has also been updated so that it focuses on direct coverage between eastern China, South Korea and Russia with the rotation of Shanghai – Ningbo – Busan – Vladivostok – Vostochniy – Busan – Shanghai.

“Our Golden Horn service has been well received by customers and volumes have been growing since its launch. With the launch of the Kamchatcha service calling at a new port in Russia, the two services will jointly enable MSC to further expand our coverage of the Russian Far East region, providing customers with more options,” said Metz Nip, Trade & Sales General Manager of MSC in Shanghai.

The services facilitate the movement of a wide range of Chinese exports such as machine parts, chemicals, household supplies and furniture, as well as Russian exports such as frozen seafood, agricultural food products, logs and wood products.

There were news reports last November of Chinese and Russian officials having discussions to further boost bilateral cooperation in various areas, including trade between Northeast China and the Russian Far East region. China is currently Russia’s largest trade partner and economic and trade ties between the two countries have been increasing rapidly over the years.
