Emergency Fuel Surcharge - Trade from Red Sea and East Africa to Northern Europe (inc. UK and Scanbaltic), West Mediterranean and Adriatic
07/05/2026
Recent events in the Middle East have created significant disruption across the global fuel market. This has driven a rapid increase in marine fuel prices globally and has altered the normal geographic distribution of marine fuel supply.
As a consequence, this has reduced the availability of bunker fuel at many traditional sourcing locations, which are increasing procurement challenges and adding operating costs across our network.
As a result, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company will update the Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS) to all cargo from Red Sea and East Africa to Northern Europe (including UK and Scanbaltic), West Mediterranean and Adriatic.
As from 16 May 2026 (BL date) until 31 May 2026, the EFS will be charged as follows:
| Trades | DRY/TEU | REEFER/TEU | ||
| From Red Sea to Northern Europe (inc. UK) |
USD 125 | USD 190 | ||
| From Red Sea to Scanbaltic | USD 185 |
USD 275 | ||
| From Red Sea to West Mediterranean and Adriatic | USD 90 | USD 130 | ||
| From to Red Sea to East Africa | USD 115 | USD 170 | ||
| From East Africa to Northern Europe (inc. UK) | USD 240 | USD 355 | ||
| From East Africa to Scanbaltic | USD 295 | USD 440 | ||
| From East Africa to West Mediterranean and Adriatic | USD 200 | USD 300 | ||
| From East Africa to Red Sea | USD 115 | USD 175 | ||
Any other elements of the price, for the relevant trade published on msc.com, still apply and remain unchanged.
