MSC Continues Support for Mercy Ships with Global Mercy Project

22/09/2021

MSC, through and with MSC Foundation, is proud to continue its support for Mercy Ships by providing logistics support for the organisation’s Global Mercy, the world’s largest purpose-built NGO hospital ship.

MSC Belgium recently delivered the first of 40 containers, which it has provided and organised the transport and logistics for, carrying the materials required to equip the Global Mercy for service. This follows the ship’s arrival in Antwerp in order to undergo its final stages of outfitting as a floating hospital. When complete, the ship will have six operating theatres, hospital beds for 200 patients, a full laboratory and simulation training areas.

Mercy Ships is a global charity that uses hospital ships staffed by all-volunteer crews to deliver projects of free, world-class healthcare services. The Global Mercy will join the current flagship Africa Mercy, more than doubling the impact of volunteers and services Mercy Ships provide.

MSC has been supporting Mercy Ships since 2011 in bringing hope and healing to thousands of people without access to safe, modern healthcare and surgery. The MSC Group provides logistical support to Mercy Ships, which is financed by MSC Foundation, enabling it to concentrate more of its resources on healthcare. MSC Foundation also provides direct funding to on-the-ground projects to support the most vulnerable communities around the world.
