MSC Sailing Team Looking Forward to Copa Del Rey Regatta
07/22/2019
After a fine performance in the Bol d’Or, MSC’s competitive sailing team is excited to be taking part for the first time in the Copa del Rey MAPFRE, one of the most prestigious European regattas.
MSC will charter a larger boat, a ClubSwan 42, to enable more MSC sailors to participate in one of the most prestigious regattas on the Mediterranean sea. The Copa del Rey crew includes MSC employees Joel Kunzi, Fabio Di Rosa, Damien Benard, Lars Termansen, Angelo Pietrantonio and Gibert Cappellini, as well as four members from outside the company: skipper Nicolas Groux, boat captain Santi Mas, tactician Michel Cohen and Fabrice Rigot helsman.
MSC is built on maritime heritage, with a genuine passion for the sea and a strong commitment to our employees and communities. This makes sailing a natural fit for our business and corporate values, as a family company that cares for the environment and our people.
Sailing is one of the greenest sports in the world and by nature promotes the preservation of marine environment – and we need clean seas to properly perform in both competitions and in business.
The MSC sailing team started as an internal initiative but the commitment of our sailors was so impressive that it was decided the team should start participating in international regattas.
Held in Palma de Mallorca, Spain from July 27 to August 3, the Copa del Rey has been running since 1982. There are 138 boats pre-registered in this year’s edition from 25 countries, competing in 11 classes. The first two days of the event will be dedicated to registration and measurement of participants, with the competition programme beginning on July 29. There are 11 races scheduled, with at least one coastal and the remainder windward/leeward.
MSC Team’s skipper Nicolas Groux has participated in the Tour de France à la voile five times, twice as skipper. He has two Swiss Championship titles in Surprise and three victories in the Primo Cup. Angelo Pietrantonio, Damien Benard, Fabio Di Rosa, Joel Kunzi, Lars Termansen and Olmo Del Pozzo complete the MSC team.
As well as the Bol d’Or, MSC Team has participated in other regattas on Lake Geneva, including the Geneva-Rolle, since the start of the season in April.
