Emergency Fuel Surcharge - Trade from Red Sea and East Africa to Northern Europe (inc. UK and Scanbaltic), West Mediterranean and Adriatic
20/05/2026
Recent events in the Middle East have created significant disruption across the global fuel market. This has driven a rapid increase in marine fuel prices globally and has altered the normal geographic distribution of marine fuel supply.
As a consequence, this has reduced the availability of bunker fuel at many traditional sourcing locations, which are increasing procurement challenges and adding operating costs across our network.
As a result, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company will update the Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS) to all cargo from Red Sea and East Africa to Northern Europe (including UK and Scanbaltic), West Mediterranean and Adriatic.
As from 1 June 2026 (BL date) until 15 June 2026, the EFS will be charged as follows:
| Trades | DRY/TEU | REEFER/TEU | ||
| From Red Sea to Northern Europe (inc. UK) |
USD 140 | USD 210 | ||
| From Red Sea to Scanbaltic | USD 200 |
USD 305 | ||
| From Red Sea to West Mediterranean and Adriatic | USD 100 | USD 145 | ||
| From to Red Sea to East Africa | USD 130 | USD 195 | ||
| From East Africa to Northern Europe (inc. UK) | USD 260 | USD 390 | ||
| From East Africa to Scanbaltic | USD 325 | USD 485 | ||
| From East Africa to West Mediterranean and Adriatic | USD 220 | USD 335 | ||
| From East Africa to Red Sea | USD 130 | USD 195 | ||
Any other elements of the price, for the relevant trade published on msc.com, still apply and remain unchanged.
