Les arachides, le sésame, les noix de cajou, la ferraille, le poisson et les produits de la mer sont les principaux produits d'exportation de la Gambie, la plupart étant destinés à l'Extrême-Orient, à l'Inde, à l'UE et aux États-Unis.

Les principales importations du pays sont essentiellement des produits finis et des denrées alimentaires en provenance d'Extrême-Orient, de l'UE, des États-Unis et d'autres régions du monde. Compte tenu de la taille du pays, la majeure partie de ces importations transite vers les pays voisins.

Detention, demurrage and storage in Gambia

What is demurrage?
Demurrage is the charge applicable, after the free time expires, inside the terminal for the use of the land. In case of a demurrage dispute, email log@msc.com or imp@msc.com (with as email subject: Dispute + Invoice Number), describing the reasons for the dispute.  

What are storage charges? 
A storage charge is applicable, after the free time expires, for containers left inside the container yard (for the use of the land). 

Paying detention and demurrage charges 
All payments can be accepted via our Standard Chartered Bank Gambia Limited accounts of which details viz USD/EURO/GMD can be found on the bottom of all our invoices.

Detention and Per Diem are not applicable to MSC containers in Banjul. 

SOLAS VGM information
What is VGM?

Verified Gross Mass or VGM refers to the exact, verified weight of a packed container. For safety reasons, vessel operators can only load a container if its weight has been verified.

What do I need to include in my VGM instructions?

You must include the following on all VGM instructions:

  • Booking or Bill of Lading (BL) number
  • Container number
  • VGM + weight measurement unit (lbs. or kgs.)
  • Responsible Party Name
  • Digital signature of the authorised signatory in all CAPITAL LETTERS.

How can I submit my VGM instructions?

Guidelines for submitting your VGM instructions

  • MSC prefers to receive a Shipper-Verified Gross Mass (VGM) before cargo is loaded onto the export vessel.

MSC admin fees and costs 

  • VGM Misdeclaration fees are advised by the liner concerned.

Prohibited cargo

It is illegal to bring the following items into or out of Gambia.
 
Imports

  • Counterfeit money  
  • All kinds of arms, weapons and explosives 
  • Media with immoral or seditious content, such as child pornography  
  • Narcotics and some medication containing prohibited substances  
  • Nuclear and all other types of waste materials/substances for dumping 

Exports 

  • Narcotics and some medication containing prohibited substances  
  • Endangered species as set out on the dedicated CITES page
