Engaging Local Students in the World of Shipping and Logistics

19/03/2026

MSC Games Collage for Article
Earlier this month, MSC UK opened its doors for its third successive annual MSC Games event, offering students a first-hand insight into the world of shipping and logistics through engaging workshops and interactive activities.

We were pleased to welcome students from four Suffolk sixth forms and colleges, to learn directly from those working within the shipping and logistics sector and find out how the next generation can drive innovation and forward-thinking.

With around 95% of UK imports and exports transported by sea, shipping remains a cornerstone of the national economy. At the same time, the sector is navigating a generational shift in its workforce. Initiatives such as MSC Games are designed to raise awareness of the industry and present clear pathways into careers and apprenticeships.

Exploring the Industry Behind Global Trade

Throughout the day, students took part in a structured programme combining departmental workshops and scenario-based challenges. Sessions led by teams across Customer Service, Trade, Logistics, Marketing and Finance provided a clear view of how functions work together to support end-to-end supply chain operations. This was complemented by practical exercises, including hazardous cargo handling, vessel planning and a fast-paced freight flow simulation, where students applied problem-solving and teamwork skills in real time.

Jason Parkes, Head of Business Transformation, also delivered a session on the evolution of the shipping industry, highlighting the role of technology and new ways of working in shaping global trade.

The day concluded with a closing address from Managing Director Dan Everitt, who shared his career journey within MSC UK, followed by a quiz and an awards ceremony recognising the 2026 MSC Games Champion.

Reflections from the MSC UK team

Pawel Stasiak, People Development Manager, reflected on the day, sharing:

“MSC Games is more than a one-day event, it’s a powerful bridge between our business and the local community. By opening our doors to young people, we spark curiosity, build confidence, and inspire future careers, all while showcasing the heart of who we are at MSC UK, a team committed to growth, opportunity, and making a meaningful difference.”

Jason Parkes, Head of Business Transformation, echoed this sentiment, adding:

“MSC Games showcased the students’ curiosity and ambition, as conversations quickly moved from today’s roles to the skills that will shape tomorrow’s industry. Seeing them connect technology, creativity and purpose within shipping and logistics was energising. Events like this don’t just position MSC as an employer of choice - they open doors, spark confidence and help young people see what’s possible.”

A Vision for the Future

The event provided students with a clearer understanding of the industry and reinforced MSC UK’s role as a key local employer committed to developing future talent. It also highlighted our commitment to our local community, strengthened this year by signing the Power of Youth Charter – a pledge focused on providing young people a strong voice and creating meaningful opportunities for them to learn, contribute and thrive.
