MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company is proud to support Boris Herrmann and Team Malizia on the race of a lifetime – Vendée Globe. Besides embarking on this personal challenge, sailing solo and unassisted around the globe, the skipper and the team contribute to climate research and raise awareness around climate change and ocean protection. To complement its own efforts to maximise environmental performance, MSC is excited to support Boris Herrmann and Team Malizia in this race we must win to push limits, raise awareness and advance climate research.
Diego Aponte, President & CEO, MSC Group, says: "Understanding the impact of climate change on the environment and on the oceans where we operate is of crucial importance. At MSC, we passionately believe that the path to sustainable shipping involves commitment, innovation, dialogue, advocacy, and investment. That’s why we keep investing in our fleet and in the latest technologies to protect the oceans and the environment, and, why we support Team Malizia's quest to gather scientific data from ocean racing under the leadership of the inspirational Boris Herrmann. MSC is delighted to continue to promote collaboration across all areas of the shipping and logistics sectors in order to help realise the ultimate common goal of a zero carbon future."
Boris’ racing yacht is equipped with solar panels and hydro generators eliminating the need to use fossil fuels. In addition, team Malizia has partnered with leading scientific bodies to collect and analyse invaluable ocean data throughout the race. A special onboard laboratory was installed onboard to measure CO2, temperature, salinity and pressure in the ocean helping scientist to understand the impact of climate change on the ocean.
Due to its unparalleled nautical heritage, MSC has a long-standing commitment to protecting the ocean. Partnerships are vital in achieving a more sustainable future and besides working closely together with industry peers, MSC has ensured that customers can embark on this journey by offering them the option to fully compensate the unavoidable carbon emissions caused by the transport of their cargo helping bridge the gap between shipping today and the zero-carbon future we all aspire to.
