MSC Receives UN Award for Electronic Data Exchange

11/10/2017

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, a leader in global transportation, is honoured to receive an award for its support of the United Nations global standard on electronic data exchange.

The award commends MSC’s implementation of the data exchange language for transport, trade and logistics companies known by the acronym UN/EDIFACT.

Since its inception 30 years ago, UN/EDIFACT has become a reliable standard, helping companies to optimise communication and efficiencies throughout large, complex operations.

Accepting the award at a ceremony in Rome, MSC’s Chief Operating Officer Claudio Bozzo explained the importance of the standard, given the exchange of some 250 million messages per year between MSC and its fleet.

In one instance, when the container ship MSC Zoe arrived in the port of Antwerp, as many as 113,000 messages were exchanged during the discharge and loading of cargo.

MSC thanks the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) for its work and looks forward to many more years of success in this field.
