Venezuela/La Guaira Container Terminal Operations and Cargo Diversion

01/07/2026

On June 24, 2026 North Venezuela was the epicenter of numerous earthquakes that has severely affected infrastructure and operations in the region. As such, significant structural damages have halted operations at the La Guaira Container Terminal.

For cargo already loaded and sailing towards La Guaira Container Terminal, MSC will divert shipments to the Port of Puerto Cabello for cargo discharge, via a transhipment port in the region using our feeder network. This temporary operational measure is being implemented to maintain service continuity while ensuring the safe handling of cargo. Upon discharge at Puerto Cabello, MSC's obligations under the contract of carriage shall be deemed duly fulfilled in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable Bill of Lading.

To help avoid any unnecessary delays, we kindly ask that you instruct your customs brokers and local representatives to coordinate the required customs clearance and all related formalities with the relevant authorities in La Guaira and Puerto Cabello as soon as possible.

It is undetermined when operations at La Guaira Container Terminal will restart, but we aim to minimize the operational impact on our customers and their supply chains.

We appreciate your understanding and will continue to keep you informed of any further developments.

Should you have any questions, please contact your local MSC representatives in our global network of more than 675 offices.
