Emergency Fuel Surcharge - Trade from Red Sea and EAF to NWC (inc. UK and Scanbaltic), West Mediterranean and Adriatic
22/04/2026
Recent events in the Middle East have created significant disruption across the global fuel market. This has driven a rapid increase in marine fuel prices globally and has altered the normal geographic distribution of marine fuel supply.
As a consequence, this has reduced the availability of bunker fuel at many traditional sourcing locations, which are increasing procurement challenges and adding operating costs across our network.
As a result, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company will update the Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS) to all cargo from Red Sea and East Africa to Northern Europe (including UK and Scanbaltic), West Mediterranean and Adriatic.
As from 1st May 2026 (BL date) until 15th May, the EFS will be charged as follows:
| Trades | DRY / TEU | REEFER / TEU | ||
| From Red Sea to Northern Europe (inc. UK) |
USD 120 | USD 180 | ||
| From Red Sea to Scanbaltic | USD 175 |
USD 265 | ||
| From Red Sea to West Mediterranean and Adriatic | USD 90 | USD 135 | ||
| From to Red Sea to East Africa | USD 125 | USD 185 | ||
| From East Africa to Northern Europe (inc. UK) | USD 225 | USD 340 | ||
| From East Africa to Scanbaltic | USD 280 | USD 420 | ||
| From East Africa to West Mediterranean and Adriatic | USD 205 | USD 310 | ||
| From East Africa to Red Sea | USD 125 | USD 185 | ||
Any other elements of the price, for the relevant trade published on msc.com, still apply and remain unchanged.
