MSC Shipmanagement is proud to have been named “Shipmanager of the Year”, for the third successive year, by the National Maritime Rating of Ukraine. At the same event, MSC was named “Green Company of the Year”.

The ceremony, held in April in Odessa and hosted by Ukraine’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Industry Associations, covers the whole shipping community, including shipping lines, ports and crewing, making it the largest-scale forum for interaction of managers and professionals in the industry. It was also an opportunity for maritime leaders to discuss important issues such as environmental regulation and professional opportunities for seafarers.

Winners of the awards are determined by ratings based on work performance indicators, such as cargo transshipment, terminals and berths built, growth and number of employees.

“To be awarded in two categories is a very proud moment for all us and highlights the important work we are doing regarding professional training and opportunities offered for Ukrainian seafarers, while ensuring environmental safety, proper cargo-handling and management,” said Ruslan Bundyuk, Managing Director of MSC Crewing Services Ukraine, who accepted the awards.

Crew retention is an industry benchmark

“Shipmanager of the Year” is awarded to the foreign company that employed the largest number of Ukrainian seafarers, of which MSC Shipmanagement employs 4,267, an increase of 18% in the past 3 years. MSC has invested in state-of-the-art training facilities at its Odessa training centre, which enhances both personal and professional capabilities of its people.

The award for “Green Company of the Year”, held for the first time, is given for contribution to protect the environment and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Environmental protection is one of the key priorities at MSC at all levels and the company has massively invested in recent years to retrofit its managed fleet with energy-saving technologies, consequently reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

“We continue to receive a number of awards each year and this motivates our people, especially crew on board,” said Prabhat Jha, Group Managing Director & CEO of MSC Shipmanagement Limited in Cyprus.

”Our 98% crew retention rate continues to be benchmark in our industry and thanks to our well-established training programme, which not only enhances professional skills but also soft skills like leadership ability, our crew grow their knowledge and confidence on a daily basis and thus are able to handle any emergencies successfully. This award is dedicated to all our loyal crew members on board and dedicated shore team at various locations”, he added.
