MSC Statement on MSC Hermes III
02/10/2026
2 October 2026, Geneva, Switzerland - MSC confirms that MSC Hermes III experienced water ingress in the engine room while at sea on 22 September 2026. As a precaution, the Master ordered the crew to abandon the vessel. All crew members safely embarked on another MSC vessel and subsequently returned to MSC Hermes III following an assessment of the vessel's condition. One crew member received an injury to the head during the process but was safely taken into care, and is recovering well.
Following tug assistance, MSC Hermes III berthed at Vung Tau port on 24 September 2026 for cargo discharge, incident investigation and subsequent repairs.
We would like to thank the Singaporean and Vietnamese emergency services for their support during this incident.
