06/08/2019

MSC is delighted to be a platinum sponsor of the inaugural GreenTech in Shipping USA Foruma flagship event where attendees from the maritime industry and government can expect to explore critical environmental issues surrounding the shipping industry and strategies to manage them successfully.

MSC Group’s Executive Vice President for Maritime Policy and Government Affairs, Bud Darr, will be speaking at the event, held in Miami on 3 - 4 September, alongside other experts from across North America and beyond.

Bud will draw on decades of experience as a global martime leader in public policy, governement and industry as well as his current perspective from working at MSC Group, which has a container ship fleet of 520 vessels, as well as 15 cruise ships. Bud is engaged across MSC’s Cargo and Passenger divisions and is closely involved in the company’s response to developments in environmental public policy and regulation and other industry-wide issues such as carbon reduction, maritime security and international shipping policy.

International shipping is subject to increasing regulation to help minimize environmental impact and encourage the use of low-Sulphur fuels. Among the most important and imminent developments is IMO 2020 which is the new global 0.5 percent limit for Sulphur contetnt in fuel, and comes into force on 1 January 2020, as well as significant regional changes.

MSC is committed to promoting a sustainable business model and has a longstanding commitment to promote responsible and environmentally sound operational practices and procedures while extensively investing in carbon reduction and cutting-edge pollution prevention equipment.
