MSC UK is proud to support Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park with the donation of four (2x40ft and 2x20ft) shipping containers to rehome a group of orphaned Barbary macaque monkeys.
After being approached by one of our Suffolk neighbours, Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park, with an idea to repurpose and convert four end-of-service shipping containers into a sustainable animal enclosure for monkeys in desperate need of a forever home, we swung into action to lend a hand.
Finding the monkeys their forever home
Jimmy’s Farm had been alerted to the fact the charity AAP (Animal Advocacy & Protection) were looking to rehome two families of Barbary macaque monkeys who were receiving rehabilitation and treatment due to abuse and neglect at the hands of humans.
With the monkeys’ circumstances making them unable to be reintroduced to the wild, AAP had been looking for somebody to provide these endangered animals with their forever home.
Owing to their hard-wearing, easy to adapt nature, and the ability to maintain high levels of cleanliness, converting end-of-service shipping containers into specialised animal enclosures has become common practice at many zoos. And so, Jimmy’s Farm got in touch to ask us to help them do exactly that…
Having been provided specific designs of how Jimmy’s Farm wanted the containers to look, the brilliant team at MSC’s ACS depot got to work making the alterations to transform the containers into a home.
Once all alterations and safety checks had been made, MSC delivered the shipping containers to Jimmy’s Farm, which if you have visited the farm, you will know is no mean feat. A single-track road doesn’t exactly lend itself to an articulated lorry! Having avoided all potential banana skins along the way, the containers were manoeuvred into the extensive monkey enclosure that had been built by the team at Jimmy’s Farm. It was now ready to receive its new inhabitants.

MSC fully supports the use of recycled materials and is proud that four of its end-of-service shipping containers will now provide warmth and shelter for these animals for many more years to come. By supporting Jimmy’s Farm with this project, we’re pleased to be playing a role in the conservation and protection of these animals as part of our commitment to sustainability.
