Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A (MSC), recognising the extreme difficulties now being experienced by the port of Wellington and its clients and stakeholders resulting from last week’s severe earthquake and aftershocks, is pleased to advise clients that the MSC Capricorn Service vessel Penelope will call Wellington Port on 28th November on the FC644A/FC647R voyage.
While Wellington remains closed to container vessels, the Penelope will be able to utilise its own ships cranes to discharge and load containers at an alternative berth in Wellington.
All export containers able to be received for shipment by CentrePort will be loaded to the Penelope FC647R.
Imports that are currently being held at Lyttelton from the two previous Capricorn sailings (MSC Banu FC642A and Passat Summer FC643A) will also be loaded onto the Penelope for carriage through to Wellington.
MSC will continue to work and liaise closely with CentrePort in respect of possible subsequent calls at Wellington but there are no further calls scheduled currently. As such no export bookings will be accepted until further notice, awaiting Container Berth re-opening or return of the Penelope’s next voyage.
Our Client Service teams will contact all affected clients.
