Two of our global staff have just returned to their MSC agency offices, following a life-changing period spent with the staff and beneficiaries of Operation Smile.
The charity has been running since 1982, and provides free surgery to thousands of children and young adults who were born with cleft lip, cleft palate or other deformities.
We have been proudly supporting this cause for six years, and in March, several of our employees left their office duties for a week to spend time with the medical charity on a carefully planned ‘mission’.
During the time spent in the Dominican Republic, our staff were able to meet the children, and see the incredible transformations for themselves.
A total of 91 surgeries to cleft palate deformities took place during the mission itself.
Ludovica D’Angelo, from our New York office, said of her time with the charity: “The mission was a wonderful experience because you become part of a family that unanimously give their best to help improve other people lives.
“There is no difference of status, age or ethnicity when you are inside the hospital, everybody is there to help and to be part of these amazing medical miracles.
I am very grateful to have been able to participate because I believe volunteers benefit from this experience as much the patients.
There is no giving back as powerful as seeing the changes in a smile of a child.”
We wish Operation Smile continued success and look forward to further updates.
