Mediterranean Shipping Company (UK) Ltd. would like to advise our customers that the implementation of phase one of the Customs Control Act in South Africa is taking place throughout June and July 2018.
The main area of focus is the requirement to submit an ‘Advance Manifest’ to South African Customs, 24 hours prior to loading. To comply, MSC will require full and complete Shipping Instructions 36 hours prior to the vessel’s arrival at the load port, to allow time for processing and submission.
During this transitional phase, South African Customs have granted a ‘grace-period’ until the 31st July 2018. Penalties will be enforced from 1st August 2018. To minimise the risk of non-compliance, MSC will require advance Shipping Instructions from Monday 16th July 2018.
For further information, please refer to the Q&A on the South African Revenue Service (SARS) website.
We will continue to monitor the progression and if anything changes, further information will be available.
Please don’t hesitate to contact your local MSC team on 01473 277777 or your usual MSC representative if further information is required.
