MSC Regattas
The MSC sailing team is competing in the Barcolana, the largest sailing race in the World, Trieste, Italy 13 October.
For this race, MSC will compete with its own boat, MSC Team Psaros33. The Barcolana crew includes five MSC employees: Joel Kunzi, Massimiliano Venezian, Paulo Quariguasy, Sebastian Wittgenstein, Simone Arienti, as well as members outside of the company: Nicolas Groux, skipper, and Mikis Psarofaghis, owner of Psarofaghis Shipyard, trimmer mate.
MSC is built on maritime heritage and passion for the sea, so sailing is a natural fit. Our founder Gianluigi Aponte began his career as a captain and sailing is closely linked to our values. It is a sustainable mode of transport which allows for team building while helping to protect our maritime resources and environment.
A group of MSC employees wanted to share their passion with colleagues, and this became the MSC Psaros 33 project. This gives our employees the chance to experience being on board the race-ready Psaros 33 monohull sailing boat.
The Psaros 33 debuted at the 2016 Bol d’Or Mirabaud with Nicolas Groux, experienced skipper and 2016 Surprise Swiss Champion, at the helm.
After great performances at the Bol d’Or, Copa del Rey in Palma, and Turckcell Platinum Bosphorus Cup in Istanbul on the last weekend in September, the Barcolana signs the end of 2019 sailing season.
About our skipper
Nicolas Groux, skipper of Psaros 33, started sailing in Dinghy, Optimist and 420 and has three years' experience in multihulls. In monohulls, Nicolas has participated in the Tour de France five times, twice as skipper. He has two Swiss Championship titles in Surprise and three victories in the Primo Cup. Between 2009 and 2011, Nicolas launched a transatlantic race project, coming 14th overall in the competition and holding the current record time.
