On August 16th, 2015, MSC Naomi made her maiden voyage in Brazilian waters. The vessel berthed at Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP), Alemoa, in Santos, where her christening ceremony took place in the presence of city VIP guests, crewmembers and some employees from MSC Brazil.
The cargo ship pays tribute to the managing director of MSC Brazil, Elber Alves Justo, and takes the name of his daughter Naomi, who also attended the celebration.
Nothing underlines the ‘family spirit’ more than MSC’s cultural tradition to honor their executives and family members in the naming of their vessels. The tradition started back in the 1970’s when the fleet’s second vessel was named MSC Rafaela, in honor of Mr. Gianluigi Aponte’s wife.
The tradition continues even today. MSC’s new ‘Oscar class’ 19,224TEU ships are all named after Mr. Aponte’s grandchildren: MSC Oscar, MSC Oliver, MSC Zoe and, from September, MSC Maya.
This is why the naming of MSC Naomi was widely appreciated by all at MSC Brazil. The feeling of pride and joy was shared by every single one of our employees. The tribute paid to the company’s managing director, Elber Alves Justo, also acknowledged all his hard work and dedication to MSC throughout the years.
Elber is extremely grateful for the recognition from MSC management and the Aponte family. “It acknowledges all the serious, hard work and commitment throughout the years. This honour not only ‘crowns’ my personal efforts, but also those of the entire MSC group in Brazil. We have all worked hard to build volumes, strengthen the MSC brand and grow the Brazilian market. It is the result of the commitment of all employees working together”, concluded Elber.
