A macromolecular home-lab X-ray system consists of five major components: X-ray generator, optics, area detector, software and crystal cryo-cooling system.

Rigaku offers options in all five areas so researchers can customize their lab to fit their experimental needs. Through years of experience, Rigaku has developed the expertise to easily integrate different technologies into a customized package that is 100% supported by the Rigaku organization.

Customers who purchase an X-ray system from Rigaku will receive the maximum flexibility in selecting components and also experience the benefits of full system responsibility from one company.

Low temperature solutions

Oxford Cryosystems Cryostream
700 series and Plus

The Cryostream 700 series (80-400 K range) and Cryostream Plus (80-500 K range) are the most recent models of the Cryostream Cooler, which has become the most popular low temperature device for crystallography available today. Both systems offer a superior laminar flow system, meaning virtually zero risk of icing, extremely quiet running and a fast-start system resulting in a cool-down time to 100 K of just 20 minutes. Both offer low liquid nitrogen consumption (half that of some other systems) meaning that a 60 liter Dewar vessel can last up to three days. The 700 series Cryostream and Cryostream Plus are both provided as standard with the AD51 dry air unit, liquid nitrogen Dewar vessel and support stand.

Features

  • Temperature range of 80-400 K (700 series) and 80-500 K (Cryostream Plus)
  • The best laminar flow available means far less icing than other systems
  • Fast cool-down to 100 Kelvin in just 20 minutes compared to up to 60 minutes for other systems
  • Highly accurate mapping of temperature at crystal position,
  • Excellent stability of 0.1 K with ability to log and record system data

Oxford Cryosystems Cobra
Non-liquid Cryostream

Cobra has been designed for labs looking for Cryostream-like efficiency and functionality without the need for liquid nitrogen. As Cobra uses nitrogen gas, it offers complete freedom from liquid nitrogen, and the challenges it presents such as storage, refilling of Dewars and safety considerations. If a laboratory nitrogen gas supply is available, this can be used for the Cobra. Otherwise, an optional extra is the nitrogen gas generator which produces pure dry nitrogen gas from the air.

Features

  • No liquid nitrogen required
  • Temperature range of 80-400 K ( 80-500K for the Plus model)
  • Fast cooldown time (40 mins to 100 K)
  • Stable system can be run for weeks without user attention
  • Excellent stability of 0.1 K with ability to log and record temperatures

Oxford Cryosystems DTC
Desktop Cooler

For simple uncomplicated sample cooling, the Desktop Cooler (DTC) will be hard to beat. The DTC combines the convenience of a non-liquid system with the low maintenance and low cost associated with the traditional Cryostream. The integrated mechanical cooler means that the DTC can produce a cold dry air stream down to 170 K without the need for liquid nitrogen, eliminating the need to ever refill a Dewar again. The mechanical cooler used does not require a separate helium compressor, which means that cooling water is not required and maintenance is reduced to virtually zero.

Features

  • Temperature range of 170- 300 Kelvin
  • No liquid nitrogen required
  • Compact self-contained system, no cooling water required
  • No consumables and virtually zero maintenance
  • Stable system can be run for weeks without user attention

Dry compressed air or nitrogen gas is cooled by the DTC and is then delivered to the sample. Many labs have access to a piped-in dry air or nitrogen supply which can be used directly by the DTC. If dry air is not available however, Oxford Cryosystems can supply the AD51 dry air unit, which offers:

  • Variable flow up to 25 liters / minute
  • Dry air with a dew point of better than -60°C
