Sr. Software Engineer
Summary
Rigaku Automation - a leading provider of lab automation to the life sciences market - is looking for a highly motivated senior software engineer that can combine a diverse skillset with the ability to work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, software developers and manufacturing experts to address the ever evolving research needs in protein crystallization and crystallography.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Additional duties may be assigned)
- Contributes to all aspects of our lab automation software: data management, instrument control and user interfaces in a client/server/web-app architecture.
- Works closely with applications, service and engineering groups to support efficient software R&D processes. Helps capture requirements, design and implement software solutions, as well as maintenance and installation of complex lab automation systems.
- Provides technical expertise and creativity to develop solutions to complex software engineering problems.
Qualifications
- BS in computer science or related engineering degree
- Enthusiasm for automation and robotic systems, previous experience in combined hardware/software systems a great plus
- 6 -10 years experience, including
- Scientific programming and/or image processing
- Demonstrated expertise of programming in .NET (C#, VB)
- Strong user interface programming background with .NET WinForms/WPF
- Expertise in n-tier architecture LOB applications
- Experience with Oracle and/or SQLServer technologies
- NHibernate or related experience in ORM tools
- Proficient with object oriented analysis, design and programming a must
- Familiar with agile development team environments and ability to work with cross functional teams (service, engineering, sales & marketing, etc.)
- Previous involvement in biotech or science industry desired

Coating Scientist
Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Major responsibilities:
- Develop multilayer optics technology and products, especially in the wavelength range of extreme UV and soft X-rays
- Develop manufacturing processes and helping the technology transfer from R&D stage to the production stage
- Participate and provide guidance to the development of the deposition equipment and metrology instruments needed for the research, development and production of X-ray optics, especially for the EUVL optical systems.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D degree in physics or material science, preferably related to thin film and vacuum technology
- Solid theoretical background and analysis capability in the physics processes related to the thin film deposition and growth
- Extensive knowledge and solid background in physical deposition technology, especially in the magnetron sputtering and the ion beam sputtering related technologies,
- At least two-year experience in thin film deposition, preferably in EVUL optics related research and development activities.
Deposition Engineer
Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Major responsibilities:
- Lead the effort in maintaining, trouble-shooting, and upgrading RIT's deposition equipment
- Lead the effort of installing and commissioning the new deposition equipment, especially the new equipment needed for EUVL optics
- Support deposition R&D and production activities
- Support the effort of further reducing the equipment downtime, improving the productivity, and accurately assessing of the equipment throughput and the overall capability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or electrical engineering, preferably vacuum technology related fields
- In-depth understanding and hands-on experience in physical deposition related technology
- Solid understanding to the mechanical system, especially vacuum equipment related mechanical systems
- Solid understanding to the electrical system, control system and software
- At least three-year industrial experience working with physical deposition systems.
Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Major responsibilities:
- Work with R&D to convert a scientific/technical concept to an engineering concept. This include to provide conceptual designs to the specified mechanical problems based on the known solutions, to develop innovative solutions with R&D group, and to assess the performance of the proposed solutions and finalize the concept for the engineering design and prototyping
- Work with RIT's engineering department for transferring the engineering concept and solution to the product design, review, prototype and finalization
- Test and evaluate the designed system against the performance specification, and further improve the design with RIT's engineering department until the design meets the specification and is finalized
- Help to develop manufacturing processes and procedures for production.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering and Optical Engineering
- At least four years experience, preferably in the opto-mechanical system related design and analysis
- Understand opto-mechanical design principles and solid background in opto-mechanical systems; familiar with the concept of "patterned design", i.e. to address the specified mechanical problems with known and proven solution
- Capability in quantitative analysis of mechanical systems using software tools (such as FEA), including stress, deformation, material characteristics and their impacts to the designs
- Able to use CAD software, preferably UniGraphics, to create 3D models for the conceptualization.
Technical Customer Support Representative
Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Duties include the following:
- Understanding the full range of RIT products sufficient to solve issues in the field and via customer communication
- Maintain Syteline Service Module. Enter all required information into Syteline and execute required transactions
- Communicate with customers via phone and email to solve issues, establish schedules and maintain customer satisfaction
- Install RIT products at customer sites
- Train customers on basic usage of RIT products, including maintenance, software and safety
- Make service calls as needed worldwide, with minimal advance notice
- Write and maintain installation procedures, manuals and other documentation
Education:
- B.S. Engineering or scientific field
Key Knowledge/Experience:
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical/electronic problems
- Ability to clearly communicate via email and phone
Key Traits:
- Comfortable with international travel
- Ability to operate independently
- Comfortable training groups of users
Desirable Experience/Knowledge:
- Familiarity with Unigraphics
- Familiarity with scientific instruments, particularly X-ray instrumentation
- Familiarity with Syteline
