  13. When I install CrystalClear, I get an error saying there is insufficent disk space to install. Why is this and what can I do?

1. Why doesn't the X-ray detector communicate with CrystalClear on my Windows 95 machine?

CrystalClear uses Windows Sockets to communicate with Instrument Server and with Processing programs. While Windows NT includes the Windows Sockets module, Windows 95 does not. Install the Winsock module, WS295SDK.EXE, which is located in the CrystalClear directory. Make sure the detector is set up correctly.

2.Why don't I see a full CrystalClear window at startup?

CrystalClear was closed while it was minimized. After logging into CrystalClear and selecting the project / sample, right-click CrystalClear on the task bar and select Maximize. Close CrystalClear while it is maximized. Open CrystalClear and log in. You should be able to size the CrystalClear window.

3. Why does CrystalClear take a long time to respond, then an error message occurs saying that CrystalClear cannot get a response from the R-AXIS?

If you are not actually connected to an X-ray detector, you should make sure CrystalClear is set in Simulator mode. Click Tools > Preferences, then click the Server tab. Check the detector in the list to force CrystalClear to run in Simulator mode. Otherwise turn on the detector prior to booting the computer.

4. Why does CrystalClear "hang" when it tries to communicate with the CCD Camera?

(This solution applies if MSCServDetCCD.exe or MSCServDetCCD Simulator.exe is started before the hang occurs.) Open system.configuration, which is found in the CrystalClear directory. Change the value of "DaemonIP" to be the IP address of the computer on which the Rigaku Daemon is running.

5. What should I do if my user list is empty after I installed a newer version of CrystalClear over an older version?

The data is not removed when you uninstall or reinstall, so you can just recreate the users in CrystalClear, making sure you use the same names as the previous version. In the User Settings screen for each user, specify the path to the user's directory in the Data field.

6. Why do I receive an error stating, "A required DLL file WS2_32.DLL was not found" when attempting to run CrystalClear?

This error will occur on Windows 95 machines if Winsock has not been installed. To install Winsock2, go to the CrystalClear directory after this installation (usually c:\Program Files\Rigaku MSC\CrystalClear) and run WS295SDK.EXE. This will copy the Winsock setup files to your hard drive. Next, run the Winsock setup by going to the Winsock directory (usually c:\ws295sdk\setup) and run Ws2setup.exe.

7. What does the Crypto-Box Error mean?

The software key or "dongle" is not recognized or is absent.

  • Crypto-Box Error 8: no dongle found.

The CrystalClear Crypto-Box dongle was not found. Install the Crypto-Box Dongle and try again.

  • Crypto-Box Error 30: Error, the attached Crypto-Box did not come from Rigaku/MSC.

A Crypto-Box was found but it was not issued by Rigaku/MSC. Install the Crypto-Box Dongle that came with CrystalClear on the PC where CrystalClear is installed and try again.

  • Crypto-Box Error 31: Error, registration key in the registry and registration key in the Crypto-Box do not match.

Normally this is caused when CrystalClear was installed with an incorrect license number, or the user changed the Crypto-Box dongle number. In this case, reinstall CrystalClear and input the correct license number during installation.

This error may also occur if a non-CrystalClear Crypto-Box dongle is installed on the PC, but the CrystalClear dongle was not. In this case, install the CrystalClear Crypto-Box Dongle and Crypto-Serv software which came with CrystalClear on the PC where CrystalClear is installed then click the Check Again button.

8. How can I change the font on the Log File Viewer. The table columns do not align properly in the log file?

This often occurs with CrystalClear installations on Japanese Windows systems. When table columns do not align properly, the font setting in the log file view is not a fixed width. Change the font using Preferences dialog using the following procedure. On the CrystalClear Menu Bar, click Tools > Preferences > Miscellaneous tab > Log file viewer font...button. Select the desired font. NOTE: We recommend Courier New for English systems, and MS Gothic for Japanese systems.

9 When I save the Setup dialog to the Site-Level Defaults, Wavelength, Polarization values and Collimation type (among other settings) are not being saved. Why don't these values appear in new collection samples?

Some hardware-specific values rarely change. CrystalClear references a file called Instrument.CONFIGURATION for the following values:

  • Collimation type

  • Element

  • Optics focus

  • Optics type

  • Polarization value

  • Polarization vector

  • Slit size

  • Source type

To change any of these hardware-specific values, change the value in the Instrument.CONFIGURATION file.

10 RAXShape and RAXVideo start everytime I click Mount Crystal. How can I turn off this feature?

Turn off RAXShape and/or RAXVideo using the Preferences dialog as follows: On the CrystalClear Menu Bar, click Tools > Preferences > Miscellaneous tab > Uncheck Start RAXShape automatically when mounting crystal.

11 How can I add a user?

Only users with Administrative privileges may add new CrystalClear users. On the CrystalClear menu bar, click Tools > Administration. The Administration dialog will appear Click the Users tab, then click Add. Refer to the help topic ADMINISTRATION > Administration Dialog > Users Tab > Add a User for more detailed help with this procedure.

NOTE: If the Administration option is grayed-out, exit CrystalClear and log on using an account that has Administrator privileges.

12 RAXVideo doesn't start up. An error message says it is not able to initialize the video capture device.

If RAXVideo doesn't function properly, click Instrument > RAXVideo > Switch To RAXVideo version on the CrystalClear menu bar. If this doesn't work, then click Instrument > RAXVideo > Switch To VideoForWindows version.

13 When I install CrystalClear, I get an error saying there is insufficent disk space to install. Why is this and what can I do?

The InstallShield PackageForTheWeb utility used to install CrystalClear is setup to always unpackage its cabinet (.cab) files in the directory pointed to by the system environment variable TEMP. If TEMP points to a drive or partition which has insufficient disk space and/or that disk space is highly fragmented, this error occurs. First check that there is sufficient disk space. It is highly recommended to empty the Recycle Bin because this Windows utility generally uses TEMP. If there is sufficient disk space but the problem persists, then this disk space is likely to be too fragmented. Use a defragmentation utility of your choice (e.g. the Windows Disk Cleanup utility) to defrag the drive or partition pointed to by TEMP.
