NitroGen™ miniature liquid nitrogen & cryogenic gas generator for protein crystallography & biochemistry applications

The Woodlands, TX — July 10, 2002.  At PittCon 2002 in New Orleans, LA, Rigaku introduced the NitroGen miniature liquid nitrogen (LN2) generator, which optionally incorporates Rigaku's acclaimed X-stream 2000 ™ crystal cooling system. This self-contained one-box solution, for point-of-use generation, storage, and transfer, is designed to solve the multiple problems of cryogen (liquid & gas) availability, transport, inventory, and handling. Requiring only electricity to operate (in some configurations), the unique packaging, capacity, and options are specifically tailored to serving the needs of the pharmaceutical or biochemistry laboratory.

As such labs employ liquid nitrogen in many facets of their work, availability can become a critical issue. Whether a remote or rural location makes supplies uncertain, or if the physical layout of a facility makes internal movement of dewars difficult and time consuming, the NitroGen system can solve the problem by generating LN2 when and where it is needed. Automatic filling of equipment also reduces manual handling of this dangerous cryogen, thereby reducing the risk of injury and freeing time for more productive activities. About the size of a dormitory refrigerator, NitroGen is available in several configurations, with generating capacities ranging to 58 liters/day (liquid) or up to 14 liters/minute (gas). Thus, this unique system can provide cryogenic gas for crystal cooling (during crystallographic data acquisitions) and/or provide liquid nitrogen for ancillary instrumentation and experimental use.
