Saturn 724+ CCD X-ray detector

Saturn 724+ SlideshowEngineered to be the next generation of two dimensional (2D) CCD camera for small molecule crystallography, the Rigaku Saturn 724+ delivers the largest active area and fastest readout of any comparable small molecule CCD X-ray area detector.

With a 4-port readout and a total digitization speed of 8 MHz, the Saturn 724+ delivers maximum data in minimal time. Optimized for molybdenum (Mo) radiation, the larger aperture of the Saturn 724+ enables collection of higher resolution data, with greater redundancy, at a given crystal-to-detector distance. The advanced full-frame CCD employed by the Saturn 724+ uses a proprietary 2-phase architecture and has high capacity pixels for extended dynamic range. With its 18-bit analog-to-digital (ADC) processing architecture, the Saturn 724+ is ideal for accurately measuring weak reflections.

Produce superior quality data

Faster readout allows samples to be screened more quickly so that more time is spent actually collecting data. Wider dynamic range allows data collection with fewer rescans, enhancing the accuracy of the data and reducing overall data collection time. The built-in attenuator (AFC-Kappa goniometer) provides more accurate data than the conventional approach, of reduced time exposure, for preventing overload reflections. Linearity and charge transfer efficiency (CTE) of the camera are tuned to provide superior data quality. The high CTE at low signal level means that weak reflections are captured with less loss of signal, inherent in all CCDs, and strong reflections are collected with better accuracy than previous designs.
