Saturn A200 CCD X-ray detector
Engineered to be the next generation mosaic CCD detector for protein and macromolecular X-ray crystallography, the Rigaku Saturn A200 delivers the widest dynamic range per pixel and fastest readout of any comparable 2x2 CCD X-ray area detector. With a 16-port readout and a total digitization speed of 32 MHz, the Saturn A200 delivers maximum data in minimal time. Optimized for copper (Cu) or 1 Å radiation, the large aperture enables collection of higher resolution data, with greater redundancy, at a given crystal-to-detector distance.
Sensitivity with superior spacial resolution
The Saturn A200 combines a large format CCD with a demagnification taper ratio of 2.08:1, to provide a detector specifically optimized for the high sensitivity and spatial resolution needs of the macromolecular crystallographer. Incorporating a fiber optic taper array bonded to four front-side illuminated BluePlus Kodak KAF-4320E CCD image sensors, the detector provides a large 203 mm x 203 mm aperture. The advanced full-frame CCD employed by the Saturn A200 uses a proprietary 2-phase architecture with high capacity pixels for extended dynamic range. With its 18-bit analog-to-digital (ADC) processing architecture, providing a true dynamic range of 18,500:1, the Rigaku Saturn A200 is ideal for accurate measurement of weaker reflections both at the synchrotron and in the home lab.

The full-frame CCD employed by the Saturn A200 uses a proprietary 2-phase architecture, and has pixels that are 24 μm on a side which, in combination with the fiber optic, creates an effective pixel size of 50 μm square at the imaging surface. To increase the sensitivity of the chip, one of the two polysilicon gates has been replaced with the transparent conductor indium-tin-oxide. Thus, the design of the chip eliminates the need to resort to backside illumination and provides intrinsically superior dark current characteristics.
The Rigaku Saturn A200 CCD X-ray detector boasts a number of other features designed to offer a superior ownership experience. LED status lights and active monitoring of the camera vacuum provides real-time operational feedback while closed-cycle Joule Thompson refrigeration delivers extreme reliability without the various problems associated with water cooling.Blue Plus and Kodak are trademarks of Eastman Kodak Company
